About us
”We are a group of family, friends and companions, united in the NGO “Airītes Stacija”
In the past, it was an active, fully-fledged social center, later became a sad and abandoned place, which we are trying to bring back to life and the old days glory.There has been joint work, concerts, events organized. We have opened a small exposition that helps to feel the pride and joy of generation of the thirties in creating a new life. Not only is it possible, it is even necessary to touch, get to know, try here! Great work was done in the station park – it was cleaned of thickets and a campfire site was created.
The park’s greenery plan has been developed, now it is possible to donate for planting a particular plant as a memorial to a person or event.
We created a small stage for outdoor concerts, the station’s warehouse is waiting to be turned into a hall for movie shows and other events.
We work on a voluntary basis thanks to the Cemex Opportunity Fund, SCCF, Kurzeme Planning Region, Saldus Municipality, and other supporters for works and cultural life at the station to be going on. On November 11, 2015, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the station. Successfully completed station park cleaning works, good cooperation with other museums and industrial heritage enthusiasts has been established. With the support of Saldus TIC, it has been included in the route “Travel in Saldus Region” and has already become an unusual tourist object. We are open at the European Museum Night and have carried out our first cultural projects. The INTERREG project for the preservation of industrial heritage and creation of the exposition is being implemented at the station.
History
The Great Beginning
The German army built narrow-gauge railway inherited as a legacy of the WWI initially fulfilled its functions, however, with the growth of exports of agricultural products and timber, it was decided to build new lines, stations and technical buildings.
Exposition
The exposition was created thanks to the Interreg EstLat program “Revival of Industrial heritage for tourism development”. It is dedicated to the history, people and events of the Liepaja – Gluda railway line. Separately – for Airite station, its human stories and architect Arturs Tramdahs. The whole exposition is designed the way to touch, learn and explore everything. We are especially looking forward to the smallest visitors and pupils to learn something new about the history of the area, railway and industrial heritage.
